Obituary for Marilyn J. Nielsen

Nielsen, Marilyn J. (Hulbert) entered into rest on 1/11/21 at the age of 88.
Predeceased by her parents, Raymond and Elizabeth (Steffenhagen) Hulbert, daughter Deborah (Nielsen) East, sister Shirley Esker. Survived by her loving husband of 69 years, James; children Lawerence (Karen) Texas, Kirk, Amy (Nielsen) Powers, Ronald (Susan); grandchildren Danielle Bailey, Xavier and Lillian Nielsen, great grandson Cory Jackson, sister Gail Esker.

Marilyn graduated from Pittsford High School in 1950. She married Jim 3/8/1952. Jim was stationed in Norfolk, Va while serving in the Navy, and they lived there for a year before returning to the Rochester area. They bought their home in Palmyra in 1974.

Marilyn worked for Lawyers Co-op in Rochester in her younger years. Once in Palmyra she worked for the FLDDSO and the Wayne County Nursing home. She retired for a few years only to return to work at the Newark school district where she was affectionately given the nick name “Grandma”.

Marilyn was a member of Eastern Star for 20 years. She enjoyed animals, bowling, flower gardening , and knitting ( even taking the Blue ribbon one year at the Wayne County fair for an Afghan she made). Marilyn especially enjoyed spending time at our cabin in the Adirondacks fly fishing for walleye and just being with her family and friends.

Marilyn’s family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Newark Manor for the wonderful care you gave her these past 4 years.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Donations may be made in her memory to the Wayne County Humane Society, 1475 County House Rd., Lyons, NY 14489.
