James A. Nielsen
PALMYRA/MARION: Joined his wife Marilyn on 3/7/2021, on their 69th wedding anniversary, at the age of 89. James was predeceased by his wife, Marilyn (Hulbert), daughter, Deborah (East). Parents, Arthur Nielsen and Lillian (Burmeister); sisters, Shirley Townley and Doris Donadoni. Survived by his children, Lawerence (Karen), Kirk, Amy (Nielsen) Powers, Ronald (Susan). Grandchildren, Danielle Bailey, Xavier and Lillian Nielsen; great-grandson, Cory Jackson.
James graduated from East Rochester High School in 1949. He enlisted in the Navy and was stationed in Norfolk, Va where he and Marilyn lived for a year before returning to the Rochester area. They bought their home in Palmyra in 1974. James worked for Eastman Kodak for 30+ years before taking advantage of early retirement when he was 51 years old. He soon went back to work at a few local machine shops until settling in with Finzer Roller in Palmyra.
James has been a Mason for 60+ years. He was a member of the Sea Scouts where he enjoyed teaching young men maritime navigational skills. He purchased his boat “The Wichita” during this time. Many family memories were made out on Lake Ontario during the summers. James also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling. His favorite things to do were spending time at the family cabin in the Adirondacks fly fishing for walleye with his family, or hunting deer or bear with family and friends.
