Dale Alan Chauncey
MARION/NEWARK: On July 16th, Dale Alan Chauncey passed away peacefully with his family by his side at 75 years of age. Dale was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and true genius of all trades. Known as a real-life MacGyver, Dale could fix anything, build everything, and was always learning, teaching, and exploring.
He was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Jean Chauncey; siblings, Thomas Chauncey, and Paula Cramer. Survived by the love of his life of 53 years and high school sweetheart, Harriet; he was a proud father of three daughters, Heather Chauncey Hogan (John Baer), Briana Chauncey, and Jill Chauncey Mathis (Quincy Mathis); beloved grandchildren, Daniel Patrick Smith, Amaerys Pratt, Kegan (Olivia) Mathis, Chloe Hogan, Donovan Mathis, Olivia Hogan, Aislyn Mathis, Fallon Mathis, and Gisele Chauncey; brother, Gary Chauncey; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
To Dale, being a Chauncey meant something. It meant grit, integrity, generosity, and pride in doing things right—with your hands, your heart, and your word. He lived that legacy every day and passed it down to everyone who knew him.
Professionally, Dale led hospital laboratories—most notably at SUNY Health Science Center—and continued consulting after retirement. His brilliant mind and steady hands left a lasting impact on colleagues and family alike.
A lifelong outdoorsman and adventurer, Dale enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, raising cattle, flying, making wine, maple syrup, and camping under the stars. His annual family trips were legendary, and his passion for flying brought joy and new horizons to those he loved.
Dale also proudly served as a drummer in the Towpath Fife and Drum Corps, where his rhythm and spirit added heartbeat to history and community celebrations alike.
But above all, Dale did everything for his family. He poured his heart and hands into creating heaven on earth at home—for his wife, his children, and his grandchildren. Whether he was tending his cows or garden, building chicken coops out back, or giving his grandkids driving lessons through the yard, he made every moment matter.
Dale’s legacy lives on in the skills he shared, the stories he told, and the love he gave freely. He was a remarkable man who could truly do anything—and did.
